Query regarding mic support in Windows Vista

Hi, I recently bought Altec Lansing AHS322 headset. I noticed that the mic is not functioning when used in Windows Vista OS (Ultimate edition). Is there any settings I need to configure for making it work or do I need to install specific audio drivers for Vista? Thanks in advance Raji

Query regarding mic support in Windows Vista

Yes you do indeed need to have Vista Drivers, That said sometimes the XP drivers MAY work if they and the software are installed in XP Compatibility Mode. Vista has been a nightmare for us in the Computer repair industry... one can only hope that all driver issues are addressed in any service packs to come? I doubt it tho...It seems a case of out with the old and in with the new...wheather ya like it or not.

Microphone fuzz So I seem to have some kind of chronic headset microphone problem. No matter what amount of money I spend on headsets, they ALWAYS seem to be fuzzy on the other end when I use the mic. I don't (and can't) use USB ones, because all my USB ports are used up with various other things. Now, i KNOW it's possible to have clear mic sound because several of my friends have clear sound. I often have to repeat what I say because the fuzz is so bad. Anyway, currently I'm using a Plantronics Multimedia Stereo Headset (Audio 350) with Windows Vista as my OS. I've tried it with various programs like Ventrilo, MSN, built-in game voice chats, etc. and it's still always fuzzy. The sound in the headphones is great though... Could this be some kind of problem with settings? or am i pretty much just doomed to be out of luck with microphones forever?

Try turning the microphone volume down in your sound settings - fuzziness is usually caused by trying to amplify the signal to a higher level than it can carry. For your own piece of mind, you might also want to check your headset on someone else's machine - that will pretty quickly distinguish between a headset and a computer problem. A.

Head set problem with vista

You will need to go into the sound manager in control panel and make sure that the external mic is enabled as the default use and ensure in the sound settings that the mic is not muted, this is normally done by right clicking the speaker icon in the taskbar and selecting options and see if the mic is muted or not in the properties

I ordered this wireless headset from amazon few days back and received just yesterday. as per instructions I charged the headset with USB given and plugged in the adopter expecting to have a nice skype calls with my family but unfortunately I couldn't even hear a simple beep sound from my headset. other party can't hear my voice either. My OS is Windows vista home premium. in the sound devices it shows plantronics. skype recognizes it automatically, but when I make a test call it simply prompts please check your microphone. Nothing works , neither audio nor voice. So what's next step here :( ? Thinking to return the set to amazon and ask for replacement, before that just wanted to see if I am missing anything. Thanks for any help. Jaya

Check if the adapter has any switches , check their initial setting and change one by one, had a similar issue with a wireless headset in the past where the switches were in wrong position if you can confirm the make and model may be able to help more

My girlfriend has a Logitech ClearChat Style headset. I recently gave her a Dell E6500 with onboard IDT High Def. Drivers and Windows Vista Business 64. The microphone rarely works (or properly discovered) and when it does it's choppy. It almost ALWAYS fails when Skype is loaded after it's been working fine using Steam voice and Vent. It works fine on her old XP-based 32-bit system. I've tried updated audio device drivers from the Dell website (9/29/2008 release), unplugging/replugging. Restarting the computer with the device plugged in (and unplugged another time). I can get it to work occasionally, but having to go into Crossloop every time I want to voice chat with her is getting redonkulous. Any help here would be phenomical (yes... that's a made up word).

Vista always has sound card problem. Friend there are two possible solutions that i can suggest: 1) Maybe you don't have an updated antivirus on your computers so a part of your driver maybe corrupted. A possible solution is to install an updated antivirus program if you do not not have any or update it to your antivirus company's web site if you have already. After doing this reinstall your driver for your sound card. Then there you go. 2) Maybe you are not using a sound card (it is recommended that you use a soundcard to have the best sound). If you do not have one you'll need to buy one. After doing this repeat my solution number 1). Thanks i hope i have solved your problem. P.S. please rate me if it helped you!
