I don't have a problem and not sure if you can give this type of advice here. I inherited a Midland 770-099 from a friend of my father(not sure why but my name was on the box it was in along with 2 other older CB radios) and have no use for it. I am going to try to sell it on craigslist. I was wondering what I should ask for it? I have the owner's manual and the antenna. I also have a Realistic TRC-424 and an older Sears SSB 23 channel. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Angie

Depending on the kind of antenna you have and the shape they are in you can probably get around 40 buck or so out of each one. you might find a collector who would like the sears radio.. go to cb radios on craigslist and check around.. you can also google and check prices. Good Luck

I have had a Cobre 29 LTD Classic, a 29 NW LTD Classic and now a 29 LTD Chrome. It seems that the first two died because of possible bad antenna connections. I was able to calibrate the radios and adjust the antenna to get a very low SWR reading. The radios work for for varying time periods and then I start getting the antenna warning light even though I can calibrate the radios and get a low SWR . The warning light will come on for awhile then go away and I thought the problem was gone. Eventually the transmitters die. I just bought the new Cobra 29LTD Chrome and tried to set it up with my current Wilson 35 Antenna. After calibrating and adjusting the SWR and I try to transmit the antenna warning light came on. The antenna is a magnetic mount and I.ve located on the top rear and center of the roof of my pickup truck. I then bought a new Cobra antenna and tried it, I get the same problem. When trying to transmit sometimes the antenna warning light didn't come on, sometimes it would flicker when I key the mike but now it comes on steady. I can receive okay and sometimes get skip from as far away as Texas. I live in Massachusetts. Also, I use a cigarette lighter adapter for power. which I have used for years. Any ideas?

I see two possible problems. First, with a magnetic antenna it is difficult to get the proper ground for the antenna. Make sure the magnetic base is clean as well as where you place it. Second, try running your power lead DIRECTLY to the battery and not using the cigarette lighter. Hope it helps. Tom

I am having a problem with mt cb. I used all new coax, antenna, antenna stud and mount. New mic and radio. The problem is I hook up the swr meter, keyed and the meter swung hard right. I have changed

You didn\'t mention what type of antenna you had but unless it is 4 foot long or longer it is going to have SWR. Also SWR meters are voltage reading devices that can be very inaccurate. Your radio has an SWR function that I would trust long before many of the "truck stop" SWR meters. You mentioned you were using a "Stud" mount. That leads me to think you are using a mirror type mount or L bracket where a PL-259 coax end will connect at the bottom and a 3/8 inch by 24 or 28 (can\'t remember) female is at the top to screw your antenna into. If so it is critical that the stud is not touching the bracket and shorting it out. There should be 2 plastic type washers that fit on the stud and insulate it from the mount. You said on the dummy load your SWR was good so we know the coax line is ok that far. If there is any problem then it has to be at the mount or something wrong with the antenna.A poor ground at the antenna mount can cause an SWR meter to false read. Mirrors on doors are usually a poor ground. You can run your own ground wire to the mount from the body yourself. If you have checked the mount and the antenna is good then you should be able to talk and receive on the radio. If you turn on the radio and hear people talking, that is a good sign. Try to make a contact but remember CB radio is only good at a short distance. The only other thing I can think of is the location where you mount your antenna. The antenna likes to out in the open and not crowded up next to a truck cab or tailgate. If it is mounted to close to another object that will carry current, that object will absorb a great part of your signal and cause significant SWR. Remember: don\'t trust an inline SWR meter very far. Try the SWR meter on your radio. If shows OK, go ahead and use the radio and don\'t worry. Keep your antenna in the clear as much as you can and be sure the mount is grounded.Another thing I do is run my power wires from the radio direct to the battery. The battery acts as a filter and reduces noise. Hope this helps

I can't seem to get any reception, just noise.

It mostly depends on your antenna location and how far away you are from other radios. The receive gain can be turned up in most radios. I do it here all day long. dodgem250.com

Power meter on my dx-979 barely moves off of 0 when transmitting, the swr meter also hovers around 1.0 no matter what channel...not used to seeing such low swr readings and almost nothing on the power transmission. my antenna is a FS-II 4' deluxe tunable, grounded on my truck chassis. any thoughts?

Well, some meters are set different than others,to see what is going on,you need a good WATT-SWR meter, but that is not a bad reading of SWR, you can get one at Radio Shack. You can not go by the meter that is on the radio,it,s probably not set right. hope this helps..

I would check the radio with an external meter to see if it is the transmitter or the Meter in the radio. If it is the meter in the radio it could have a bad detection Diode or just oout of adjustment or even a bad calibration pot. other wise start looking to fix your transmitter like finals or other similar problem.

Is it my CB antenna or something else

First off, Midland makes a fine radio. Make sure your squelch is turned all the way down to receive distant signals (down meaning counter clockwise). The through the glass antennas are not the best thing in the world. I personally use a 102" whip and a 6" spring on a modified mirror mount. It is installed on the tailgate side of the tool box. The TX and RX is amazing. Wilson and K40 make great antennas also.
