PRO-2096 digital scanner display lines from top to bottom

You can push on the display with your finger and see if you notice any change, if so it is probably a bad solder joint or crack in a circuit trace on the printed circuit board. Also with the unit unplugged you can open up the case and check for loose plugs by removeing them and then plugging them back in, then plug the scanner back into the wall outlet and turn it on to see if that helped. The voltages inside are low except where the power cord goes into the unit, at the fuse, and on the primary side of the transformer, so dont touch these areas unless you know what you are doing.

If all else fails, you can RESET or INITIALIZE the scanner to bring it back to normal operation. To RESET: - Power the scanner OFF - Power the scanner back ON - Insert a pointed object (paper clip, penpoint, etc.) into the RESET hole on the back of the scanner - Gently press and then release the RESET button inside the hole.NOTE: RESET will NOT erase the data that you've programmed into the scanner. If RESET doesn't clear the problem, you can carry out the more drastic INITIALIZE process. - Power the scanner OFF - Power the scanner back ON - Press 0 after the scanner completes its boot routine - Press 1 after the menu appears - Press ENTDO NOT power the scanner OFF until the INITIALIZE process is complete (M000 and Bank 0 Ch 00 appear on the display). I have a uniden bc340crs scanner that is 1 yr old. my backlit window does not display any of the info for my scanner. i want to reprogram and the 2-9-hold thing does not work even after trying ronnie crowell's way. how do i get my display window up and working again?

This is how you control the back light display on your scanner. SNOOZE/Backlight - Backlight: Tap the snooze button to turn the LCD backlight on for 15 seconds. Press and hold to permanently turn on the backlight. Press and hold again to turn off the backlight. Here is a link to the users manual as well. http://www.uniden.com/pdf/bc340crsom.pdf

My Radioshack Pro-82 Scanner is stuck. I turned it on, held down the "lock" button until the keypad locked. The screen didn't display the "locked" symbol, but I can't use the keypad either. Even if I try to unlock it by holding down the "lock" button, none of the buttons work and I can't use it. What can I do to fix it?

First reset the scanner. This will not remove frequencies from memory. Turn the scanner off and then on again. Use a straightened our paper clip to gently push the "Reset" button on the side of the case (small hole). If that doesn't work, the next thing to do is to reinitilize the radio. This blows everything away so its the last resort. If you have the cable adapter and CD ROM for the radio, you may still be able to back up the scanner and reload after you do this. If not, be prepared to reprogram. Turn the radio off and back on again. Hold down the "Tune/Clear button and again push the reset button. The display should clear. When the display returns, release the "Tune/Clear button Now reprogram.
