Realistic expectations for transmission range

I would like to know if anyone can estimate what sort of useable range I can expect from this model of 2-way radio, when being used within a shallow valley with relatively sparse vegetation (small trees) between the two radios?

Realistic expectations for transmission range

All depends on radio power out, those types of radios are on the absolute lowest end of the radio spectrum, only putting out about 1/2 watt to maybe 1 at most 2 watts of power in some of the other models. so with that low of a power out 1/2 to 1 watt, you will not get much at all, MAYBE one floor in a building and prob less than 1/2 mile outside, depending on obstructions, hills, trees, buildings. you'd need to upgrade to some higher power radios that run at least $ 250 each to get some decent coverage. Batteries won't charge on new cobra 2VP 270 radios

If radios are brand new then I would take them back to the store for warranty exchange. The other opton is to vist a local radio service center and ask the tech to jump the battery. if the battery falls below a certain voltage it might need a quick jump sart from a power supply with a higher voltage normally 12 volts works well...

Look in the battery compartment for a series of tiny switches under the batteries.. these switches must be identical for each radio..it puts them on the same frequency..then select channels with no interference..retry radios..

One of both Devices doesn't receive

Suerte!!

I have several MU22 series radios. they work

The MU22 will not do what you are attempting to do. You can't put in a control voltage on one end and have it come out on the other. 2-way radios Tx and Rx (communicate) using audio signals. The speaker output and audio input are audio signals, not DC voltages or control voltages. A radio can be used as a remote control method, however, a conversion needs to be done on both ends. Example: Turning a lamp on, at the Tx end you would have a converter which will take a control signal and convert it to an audio tone. On the Rx end (the lamp) there will be another converter, this converter listens for the correct tone and when it gets the correct tone, it turns on the lamp. This example is what you call tone-remote control, which is one of the most common methods for using 2-way radios for remote control applications. There are other methods for remote control such as telemetry. Keywords to google would be telemetry and tone remote control. Best regards.
