Guide :Radio Communications : Pro-96 Scanner

Scanning Sensitivity My Pro-96 seams less sensitive to the Primary channel I need to monitor. It is several years old and has been treated rough. Can the electronics "go out of alignment", similar to older scanners? What can I do to fix it, or have it fixed. I depend on it for response to EMS calls in the 154.725 range in both digital and analog. Thank You.

I Have a Radio Shack Pro 95, thats loud or freaking loud.

Could be that you wore out the volume knob, or may have turned it too far in either direction. If its the knob itself then depending on your experience working on electronic equipment and the ability to get a replacement knob you can maybe fix it yourself or may have to send it into Radio Shack for them to repair it. If the knob turns real easy you probably have a worn out knob.

Scanner will not scan the 800 band

You didn't mention your location or the type(s) of digital system signals you lost, but if you've been listening to an EDACS system it's possible that the manager has switched on the PROVOICE security option. That would prevent your scanners from recognizing the effected users and would also account for both scanners being effected. If your area is using EDACS I suggest that you visit www.RadioReference.com to check on system particulars. The PRO-95 is also known for losing its logic and requiring a RESET or INITIALIZE, although it would odd for two units to go squirrelly at the same time.If all else fails, you can RESET or INITIALIZE the scanners to bring them back to normal operation. To RESET: - Power the scanner OFF - Power the scanner back ON - Insert a pointed object (paper clip, penpoint, etc.) into the RESET hole on the back of the scanner - Gently press and then release the RESET button inside the hole.NOTE: RESET will NOT erase the data that you've programmed into the scanner. If RESET doesn't clear the problem, you can carry out the more drastic INITIALIZE process. - Power the scanner OFF - Power the scanner back ON - Press 0 then 1 while "Welcome to Dual Trunking" is displayed. - "Initializing Please Wait" will appear for about 2 seconds.DO NOT power the scanner OFF until the INITIALIZE process is complete (M000 and Bank 0 Ch 00 appear on the display). The INITIALIZE procedure will reset the scanner to original factory settings and erase all data that you have programmed. BillB

Pro-95 Scanner Hello, I've had my scanner for 5 years or so. It worked great, I progrmmed it new. I sold it on ebay a couple weeks ago and the ****** that bought it stuck the paper clip in the side and cleared everything, then said it didn't work. Of course, I gave him back his money and now I have a scanner that doesn't pick up squat. I heard a couple transmissions this morning but the freqs I have should be chattering constantly, and now nothing. Is there some cpu or board problem that would happen when the memory is cleared like that. How can I get it fixed?...Thanks, John

This is a new scanner for me it was bought used

Sorry, but I just spent about 30 minutes researching the backlight on your scanner -- and I came up with nothing. Your best bet would be to carry the scanner into your local Radio Shack store and lay the problem in their laps. They should be able to either locate and sell you the required lamp(s) or at least refer to you to a local repair source.I hope this helps.

It just doesnt turn on what do i do

If the scanner is still under warranty you can take it any Radio Shack store for a no-charge fix. Before you do that though, check the battery pack and the charger with a meter if possible, and try powering up with a spare battery pack if you have one. Chargers rarely fail, but the batteries may need to be replaced, especially if they're more than a year old. Bill B
