142 GTL no sound

Tried 3 working mics, no audio at all, AM or SSB. I hear a slight sound from the speaker. External speaker no sound either. TX is perfect, and I can see I am receiving by the meter swing, I've just got no sound. I suspect an audio chip went bad>

Suggested Questions And Answer :

I have an cobra 200, on both high an low frequencies im losing out put power, not able to get out past 2 miles. checked all connections an aireal. how do you peak an tune. cannot find anyone willing to work on radio. radio is reported to sound realy good and just had cold solders done 2 weeks ago.

The first place to look when you can only get out no more than two miles is your ground plane. To check this, use a multimeter and do an resistance check between the antenna mount and multiple points on your vehicle. This is a common problem on mobile units. Push to talk problem

Hi,If indeed radio #1 has a mic problem, this may be confirmed by trying an external speaker/microphone plugged into the accessory jack. If still a no, then its not the mic but possibly the modulator circuitry. If there is transmit audio with the external mic and hence internal mic is defective, the unit would have to be pried open and the defective component replaced. The internal mic is normally an electrofet 2-3 terminal soldered to a shielded wire and physically attached to the front plate.Alternately, another possibility is that radio #2 has its Interference Eliminator Code enabled/activated. This is indicated by the presence of small sized digits on the top right of display. If this is the case and no similar digits are displayed in radio #1, then radio #2 will not allow any received transmission to be heard. Along the same line of reasoning, if the code is activated on both radios signified by the presence of the 2 small digits, and radio #1 has a problem with its CTCSS (code) generator, then it would also prevent reception of radio #2. A way to verify this is by deactivating/disabling the Interference Eliminator Codes on both radios. On certain occasion, it is also possible that radio #2 has a defective speaker. You should be able to verify this by plugging in an external speaker to the accessory jack of radio #2.Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.Good luck and kind regards.

Motorola Talkabout 200 - how do i set main channel only? i need to set for example channel 1 and subchannel 0 (1-0; 2-0; etc) but i can only set a main channel with subcode for example (1-1; 1-2; 1-38

Here is a link to the user guide for the T289. It is the closest we have fofound to the T200 guide: http://www.motorola.com/mdirect/manuals/T289_User_Manual.pdfIt may be of assistance to you. Honestly, we were thinking the early model T200 and T250 did not have the interference eliminator code., just 14 channels. However, if you are experiencing other numbers, it is possibly the code.Best regards.

Cobra 148 gtl Low / No receive audio

No audio out / low audio out....This is a constant problem with the COBRA 148 gtl....to get a good level of volume replace the electro caps ...start around the two speaker wires and work back from there. I'm in the process of rebuilding a 148 gtl and have found caps that are leaky and dried out...after replacing nine the volume went up to a good level...now i need to fix the distortion and background hash. Did you know that there are many posts on FIXYA about this same problem I.E. great TX , great PA but poor , or no audio out. these sets have been made in sevetal countries...The sets made in Taiwan or China have poor quality front panel pots (the carbon track is micro thin and simply wares through to the material the track is printed on) This has the same effect as removing a wire from a pot I.E. no audio. The good news is that 99% of parts in the radio are freely available and that includes the front panel controls. ONE WONDERS IF THE SET IS WORTH THE EFFORT !!! CHEERS GUYS / GIRLS.

Can not recieve properly

IN your CB there are 25 tuneing slugs (square matal cans with ferrite tuneing slugs) if you speaker output is low leavel but still clear and free of hash the set should be ok , but you will need to tune these slugs with a small jewlers screw driver (WITH GREAT CARE) as the slugs break easy. If you want to email me it will not be a problem ,cheers , DENNIS [email protected]

Check for Squelch Codes you can see on the display channel number and sub chanel number this is the squelch code Both displays must show the same icons If both are the same, try with and audio accesorie, if works may be your speaker is broken.
