Either the card needs formating again, or you are still sending files to the onboard memory, in the pictures or sound menu, you have to switch the storage device to the sd card because it is not automatic; by pressing the button for options and then select switch storage device

Sending/Receiving My Bellsouth 1040 radios might be getting a little old but they are well cared for and in good shape. I haven't used them in awhile but always take the batteries (non-chargable) out when I store them for any length of time. Recently I took out the radios, installed fresh batteries and tested the sending/receiving functions. Nothing! I could hear the mike being opened but no voice came over. I also could not send my voice to the other radio. I tried again with a third radio owned by a friend with the same result. Ordinarily I would say that maybe one of the radioes has gone bad but both going at the same time seemed a little odd. I think it may be a setting on the radios that I haven't figured out yet - or both radios have gone bad. Any help with this one?

Make sure they're on the same channel. The mics could have come disconnected, but that's highly unlikely. Look for a button labelled "Monitor" on any of the radios. It might be stuck, if there is one. I don't think the problem would be in settings, as long as they're on the same channel. If they still don't work, you should probably consider a new set. I think you can pick up a new pair of Motorolas for around $40. Good luck :)

Transmitting and receiving

RF gain should be all the way up. Turn the squelch all the way down. Turn the ANL/NB to just ANL.Turn the dynamic up at least 3/4.Once you have confirm you can receive and transmit, then you can turn up the squelch up until white noise just stops.Make sure you are on 19 by the highway. Key up and say break break one nine, can some one give me a radio check please.you should get a response.Your RF gain is how much you receive. the higher it is the more you receive. In normal operation there is no need for it ever to be less the all the way on.Squelch is just to knock out fuzz, and if you only want to hear people close not far. A little less then half way is a basic setting.the ANL switch is the automatic noise limiter. if you have interference from your vehicle, like engine noise, turning this on will quiet that. If it is extreme engine noise then switch it to NB, noise blanker. It is just a more intense setting.your dynamic is how loud your audio is. if its low or all the way down, you will not transmit audio loud enough for people to hear. If its a stock radio and has not been tuned, if you turn it all the way up, that is fine.

Phone locking up

This is a common problem with the PPC6700. It is not your SD card. It is the phone trying to read from the SD slot and the card may be temporarily missing. This is due to the fact that the card does not "lock" in the cardslot properly. What i've done to fix my ppc from locking up (forever ago and I've not had the problem since) is put a piece of tape over the slot to secure the card. I haven't had a problem since I've applied the tape and can't even tell I put the tape there anyway.

W490 wont read memory card

Hi, sykko_one, I have the exact same phone and was experiencing the same problems. After about a year of using my phone and storing music, pictures, videos, etc. on my phone it would suddenly stop working. Sometimes it would work, and sometimes I wouldn't be able to save or read any data on the memory card. What I did to fix it was completely remove the memory card from the phone and used a micro sd Tinpec card reader, picture here. You want the one that supports micro sd. You can find them on ebay or amazon. Then connect your micro sd card to your pc with the adapter and right-click the removable drive (might be drive e: or f:) and choose format. Leave the default options and format the disk. Make sure you've selected the right disk. To verify this you can open the drive and look at the contents, it should have a folder called "moble." Go ahead and format the drive. Then use chkdsk.exe from the command line to check the disk for errors. Syntax will look like "chkdsk f: /f" or "chkdsk e: /f" (depending on the drive letter assigned to your sd card reader.) If the format and chkdsk do not work. try just deleting all the information from the card and copying some pictures and music files to it. If these copy successfully then I would assume the problem is with the firmware on your phone. Take the phone to a t-Mobile store and see if they can't re-load the firmware. And don't worry about deleting any data from your sd card, it will not affect the phone in any way, it will just delete whatever pictures music files you have stored on the card. So be sure to back those up first before you do anything. Hope this helps. -Rogueelite
