Suggested Questions And Answer :

Neither Radio Transmits or Recieves

Have you checked that both radios are in the same Channel and the same Squelch Code? are the batteries ok? any rust in the battery contacts? Some FRS radios gets a Malfuntion, and the syntom is like that, check this first

Talkabout MH230R does not Receive or Transmit on channel, can just Transmit (only clicks when Recieve) when programmed 2 channels higher (i.e. all radios on 5-3, one is on 7-3)

Strange. Could it be any of the radios are from different countries? The channels are not worldwide. For instance, Canadian radios are on different frequencies than USA radios. They look identical.

Cobra 148 gtl

Open the radio up and find the L22 Can/Pot. It's the one with the wire soldered on top. With both fine and coarse Claifier/Voice Locks in the 12 O'Clock positions, confirm, then listen for someone that is on the correct frequency and turn this pot (small ferrite core inside) with a small plastic preferred screwdriver, until they sound clear. Do this for USB as well except, the Can/Pot is L59. Don't adjust the VR5 (transmit) unless you need to.

Cobra 148 gtl new model

Hello bluzfan, Do you remember the old 40 channel CBs? they used basic A3A transmission (dual sideband single carrier)remember how you got crosstalk sometimes, if your power was too high? Then they went to 80 channel CBs (using a single side band as Lower Side Band (lsb) and the other as the upper side band (usb))? more crosstalk but they invented anl (automatic noise limiter)circuitry to compensate. Now you have the 120 channel CB which uses a form of side band multiplexing (20QAM) to generate 3 times more channel density 40 X 3 = 120. Here is my problem; Cobra should not have done this because you will have massive crosstalk and unaudible sounds because of the increase in channels but not an increase in initial (physical)bandwidth. I hate to tell you this but the only cure for the is to use it in 40 channel or 80 channel mode forget the 120 channel mode, or get a radio with better channel separation.

Brand New Cobra microtalk won't work!

I had to replace some of the cheap Chinese NiCad batteries to get mine to work. Check them all with a voltmeter, they should be at least 1.1 volts DC.

Poor recieve walkabout 250 (6-7 years old) no longer recieve when the 2nd one is transmitting unless the listening set has the montior button depressed (even then, only poorly/inconsistently). (has fresh batteries, tried/tested both on several sets of matching frequencies, done at ranges of 5 to 25 feet, all with same negative results). Adjusting volume knob does not activate/adjust squelch (anymore?). I seem to remember that I used to keep them on mild background static level to ensure incoming calls caught...doesn't seem to wrok that way anymore.

Another thing it might be is just basicially a bad antenna conection. Alot of these antennas cannot be removed on these radios since it illegal to use a bigger external antenna . The manufacturers make them "not removable".... well you can just unscrew them. It could be an antenna problem. If you want to check into, go ahead.... but these are just FRS radios and for the most part are disposable. It might be easier to just grab a new set.

One radio not recieving

You need to check your interference eliminator code. It sounds like they are not set to the same code. Also, if your radio has a Qt filter, set it to zero. Here's a link to the manual http://www.giantintl.com/RadioPDFs/Outdated%20Manuals/T5300_T5400_User_Manual_E.pdf

Hi I have this cb installed in my jeep, did it myself. All is hooked up properly and xxchecked. It turns on, and all the lights work, meter and channel lights are on. Squelch isn't working and which told me off the bat something was wrong. it just sits there with no incoming reception. meter stays pegged to the far left. I installed it 2days ago and today was the first time I plugged in the mike, because I was afraid I would do some damage to the circuitry. When I key the mike the meter moves about half way on the scale. At this point I did a radio check and nothing. All n All I think the transmit and receive are not working. Antenna system is ok I checked with an ohm meter all is well 0 resistance. I think I need to send the radio back I recieved it on Dec 27 from Amazon.com thanks frankie

Hello Frankie. Your diagnosis is correct. Pull it out and return it while it is still new. Do this asap so amazon doesn't give you a difficult time. Joe Thanks for choosing Fixya!
